Security Systems Technology

Technology and in particular electronics is evolving at a fast pace. The security industry has been a leader in the development of electronic products for detection applications.

Control panels have the capability of activating sirens and strobe lights as well as switching on or off all manner of systems ie Air conditioning / heating, lighting or even unlocking doors. They also have the capability of generating an alarm message via a phone line to be self monitored or, for a more secure system, to a control room.

The detection devices are also more advanced with dual tech, tri tech or passive infrared motion sensors that have the capability of being almost immune to environmental conditions (birds, rats etc.) thereby reducing false alarms.

The wide variety of detection devices available to secure a site has increased dramatically due to the advancements in electronics.

• Door contacts will activate upon the opening or closing of a door.
• Motion sensors will detect movement within their field of view and are capable of being installed in sheds or warehouses and still be very reliable.
• Glass break sensors will detect the sound of plate glass windows being smashed and will set off the alarm thus driving off offenders.
• Seismic sensors are installed to safes, ATM’s to detect attack or intrusion.
• Smoke detectors can also be incorporated into a security system thereby allowing them to be monitored (high security).
• Holdup (duress) switches can also be installed and monitored to a control room to protect staff when they’re working alone.

All of the above detection devices can be Wireless if needed.

As technology develops, the number of security systems being installed is increasing year by year. Decades ago the only businesses that had security systems were jewelers, chemists, video shops, liquor outlets and the like. These days virtually almost every type of business at some time considers their security needs and a high percentage opt for a security system for peace of mind or for insurance purposes.
